Higher blood eosinophil counts, neutrophil counts, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and lower lymphocyte counts show favorable responses to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), suggesting that using ICS in patients with these cellular profiles may lower the risk of all-cause mortality.

The available evidence suggests that triple therapy may reduce rates of COPD exacerbations (low-certainty evidence) and results in an improvement in health-related quality of life (high-certainty evidence) compared to combination...

Authors of this Cochrane review suggest that triple therapy may reduce rates of COPD exacerbations and results in improved health‐related quality of life versus combination LABA/LAMA inhalers, but probably confers an increased pneumonia risk as a serious adverse event.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a multisystem disease with multiple comorbidities. Hearing is dependent on the cochlear functions that may be affected by oxygenation.

This study proved a significant difference in auditory measures with mild to moderate hearing loss in the COPD group versus the control group. The hearing loss was significantly higher in the respiratory failure COPD group compared with the nonrespiratory failure group.

QRISK3 Underestimates the Risk of Cardiovascular Events in Patients With COPD

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The extent to which the excess CVD risk is captured by risk factors in QRISK,...

On average, the observed 10-year CVD risk was 52% higher than QRISK predicted score. The difference was higher in patients younger than 65 years. Thus, people living with COPD are at a significantly heightened risk of CVD over and beyond their predicted risk.

People living with HIV infection (PWH) have historically been excluded from large randomized controlled trials of COPD treatments. Therefore, there are very few HIV-specific data on COPD management, and instead general COPD guidelines for both chronic disease management and COPD exacerbations are applied to PWH.
